Samsung Pay reported nearly 400,000 registered users and 500,000 successful transactions, taking the total transaction value up to VND350 billion (US$15.4 million) within six months of being operational.
MoMo, Samsung Pay and BankPlus in that order have been voted the most popular electronic wallets in Viet Nam in a poll done by Nhip Cau Dau Tu (Investment Bridge) magazine.
On September 13 Samsung launched its mobile payment service, “Samsung Pay”, in partnership with the National Payment Corporation of Viet Nam (NAPAS). Like Samsung, Apple also plans to bring its digital wallet, “Apple Pay”, to Viet Nam soon.
Foreign tech giants are set to jump into the mobile payments market on
both the paying and receiving sides of the transaction, thus posing a
threat to local commercial banks payment market share, warn local
experts.
